Pricing calculator

Work out what to charge for a job from your real costs, or see what you would actually make at a price you have in mind.

On this page

The pricing calculator helps you set prices from what a job really costs you, instead of guessing or copying someone else. Open it from Manage, then Pricing calculator.

Nothing on this page is saved. It resets when you reload, so it is safe to play with numbers.

Pick what you want to figure out

At the top, choose one:

  • Find my price: you know your costs and the profit you want, and Nipcy works out the price.
  • What will I make?: you have a price in mind, and Nipcy shows what you would keep.

Step 1: What does this job cost you?

Fill in what this one job costs. Leave a line at zero if it does not apply.

  • Photographer time: your own time, at the rate you want to pay yourself.
  • Editing: time or money spent editing.
  • Assistant: a second shooter or helper.
  • Studio / location: rental or permit fees.
  • Travel: fuel, parking, flights.
  • Products / prints: albums, prints, USBs.
  • Other: anything else.

Then:

  • Business overhead for this job: a share of your yearly costs, like gear, software and insurance, for this one job.
  • Payment fees: what your card processor takes. It starts at 2.9% plus $0.30, which is a common card fee. Change it to match yours.

Step 2: Your goal

If you chose Find my price, answer What do you want to earn? Enter either a dollar amount or a percentage margin.

If you chose What will I make?, answer What do you want to charge? Enter the Client price.

Step 3: Your result

You will see Here's what you'll make:

  • Client pays: the price.
  • Your costs, split out.
  • Actual job profit: what you keep after costs and fees.
  • Profit margin: profit as a share of the price.

To test another number, use Try a different client price. To go back, tap Back to the calculated price.

Good to know

  • On a computer, your result stays in view on the right while you change numbers. On a phone, it is under the form.
  • If the payment fees add up to the whole price or more, you will see Payment fees can't be 100% or more of the price.
  • Nipcy takes no commission, so there is no Nipcy fee to add.
  • For per-session costs that you reuse, see the profit projection on Services and packages.
